Postcard from Kiawah Island

On one of our morning walks the crews were out setting up beach chairs and umbrellas.  I was able to snap this photograph and thought it would make a nice postcard.

Ice Cream!!!

This is what happens when you tell kids it is time for ice cream.  They all take off running.

Like Father, Like Son

While we were at the beach we played a game similar to horse shoes, but with golf balls and holes in the sand.  I couldn't resist taking a photo of the father-son game that was in progress.

Kiawah Island Trees at Sunset

During our walks to get ice cream in the evening we pass this grouping of trees.  I love the way the trees are silhouetted in the evenings when the sun is setting.  If you are able to visit Kiawah Island make sure and take time to notice the trees.  There are many very interesting varieties to appreciate.

Pittsburgh Portrait Photographer - Kiawah Island Beach Session

During our family vacation a couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to photograph the Sticca family.  We started a little earlier than we should have, but even with the challenge of a very bright sun, I think everything turned out really nice.  Below I have included a few of my favorites.

Maybe next year, I will plan a little better and try and see if other Pittsburgh families will be at the beach at the same time and book a few more sessions for that week.

Warmer Days are Coming

The sunny days we have had lately remind me of days enjoying the outdoors.  Opening day for baseball, warmer temperatures, trips to the zoo, and family vacations are all on the horizon.  Last night I discovered a photograph from one of our trips to the zoo while on vacation.  This is the Columbia Zoo in Columbia, South Carolina.  They allow you to feed the giraffes lettuce, which is how I was able to get so close for this particular shot.g

Booked!

So over the last few weeks I have been reminding Sue that she needs to figure out when and what we are doing for vacation.  Specifically, coordinate with her sister on when we are going to the beach.  Over the weekend Sue and her sister talked and finally decided we are headed to Kiawah Island, SC.

This pleases me for several reasons.  First, I have been to several beaches on the east coast for family vacations, but never Kiawah Island.  I love traveling and exploring new places.  This means I will get to research and plan all the places I want to photograph while we are there.  Second, I love the beach, not so much the sand but everything else that goes with the beach.  Lastly, I know that the vacation is booked and there won't be any last minute conversations about when or where we should go on vacation.

With all this in mind I started going through some of the photographs from our beach trip last year to find one for editing.  We went to Ilse of Palms, SC which is located a few miles north of Charleston.
One of the mornings we were there I woke up before sunrise to take a bunch of shots with the plan of editing at a later time.  Well, this was one of the photographs of the sun rising that morning and editing this photo brought back the memory of standing there with some locals enjoying the sunrise.  As I was taking my photos one gentleman turned to me and said "You know, this happens every day here."

Maybe one day I will have a beach house somewhere that I can watch the sunrise every day.
